THE DREAM : CYBERZONE ENCROACHING

Yesterday the computer technology I used frustrated me. Pass words did not work, programs took ages to load and spam criss crossed my screen when I was searching for information on the internet.

It took me some 15 minutes to get a simple e-mail out to a workgroup. I had expected it to take less than 5 minutes.

It was just another day with my technological tools that are now the only way I regularly contact other human beings.

I am truly wondering about this question today. Are we all slowly but surely being absorbed into our cyber machines?

My dream last night began with bright red cyber bot lights running along channels shown up as red lines on a black torso shape that came into focus on a computer screen.

“Oh No!” I said to myself, “I am now having computerized dreams!”

To combat the computerization of my dream I focused on anything I could recall that was alive and had nothing to do with computers. Sadly I found the computer world overlaying the images in some way.

Lakes became dams with computerized flood gates, trees became aviaries in computer controlled environments. Even worms were grown in computerized worm farms to optimize their fitness as food for fish in computerized fisheries.

The nightmarish images continued.

The red cyber bots were travelling along my bodies meridian lines with concentrations of light showing at all my pressure points illuminating the ones flowing well. The dark spots showed the blockages.

I felt invaded and I began to wonder if I had a case of cyber paranoia – a conditions I am not sure is medically recognized yet. This dream showed me it soon will be. There is a problem however, the world of medical science is computerized these days. These means the experts in this field could be blinded by the technology and not see it!

In my cyber dream I found myself waiting to speak at a medical conference with a good friend. People I have worked with over the years were there as the last five minutes ticked down to my speaking on a topic I knew well. They all had mobile phones and first one then the other went off as the count down continued.

First one then the other came up to me quietly saying we have had word you must not speak on this topic or that topic – the clinical pathways are under review.

“But that was my topic.” I said. “I know.” They said with understanding shrugging their shoulders while pointing to their mobile phones “It’s the voice from on high you know – what can we do?”

My dream closed with me taking my place at the podium while all those above me in the chain of command watched as I dealt with the reality I had nothing left I was allowed to say. The technology had spoken in the form of a mobile phone and we had all obeyed what it said in good faith.

Now awake I have decided to write this down as a story I have called Cyberzone Encroaching. It is my wake up call. It is all I have left to say to anyone out there in what reality there is left that can still be found in an un-computerized state.

THE BACKGROUND:Everyone I talked to yesterday had a serious computer issue that dominated our conversations. I felt my life was impinged on by cyber technology in my recreation time. I understood all the positions of the people involved but was annoyed. I have sent this dream off to my local newspaper as a letter to the editor.

Try doing computer programming! Thats like banging your head against a brick wall. Try to think of the most frustrating time on a computer and thats computer programming all the time.
