THE DREAM The world was about to end. Nuclear bombs were dropping and the apocalypse was imminent.
THE REALITY The dreamer had just found out he had arthritis.
DREAM MEANING The dream captures this thought excellently "I am distraught. Arthritis is a terrible illness and I now know I have it".
The dream is a metaphor for the dreamers terrible illness. The fact that he had arthritis was in no way linked to the actual end of the world. Yet it felt like it was the end of his world.
