dream dictionary symbolism and analysis

This dream dictionary uses a bank of hundreds of real dreams to show how dream symbols translate into real life thoughts and feelings.

THE DREAM My best friend at school was there. I made some joke at his expense which was meant in good banter. He swore at me. (Last time I saw him in real life he ignored me).

GUESSWORK The previous day the dreamer had seen someone he had been very good friends with. There had been problems and now the dreamer had just avoided him. He had been avoiding him for a while. His former friend was bound to have noticed this and it would have seemed odd if he had just gone up to him as if nothing had happened. It was obvious he had been ignored and snubbed.

The "Guesswork" stage of interpreting a dream involves spotting issues likely to cause dreams. For help with this click here

ASSOCIATIONS AND SYMBOLIC MEANINGS
1. Former best friend: The former best friend represented a relationship which was very similar to the dreamers friend he had seen the previous day. His relationship with his former best friend had just drifted as his friend had lived in London miles away. His friendship with the friend he had seen the previous day had grown apart. They had been good friends but now he had avoided him for weeks. He had not said anything but it must have been obvious that he had a problem with him.
2. Joke and banter. The joke made at the friends expense was probably a symbol for his snub of his friend.
3. Swearing: Swearing maybe symbolised the dreamers thoughts about what had just happened. The dreamer perhaps felt that if they had spoken the his former friend would have sworn at him. His friend would have sensed this tension.

DREAM ANALYSIS In guesswork the dream was linked to the dreamers thoughts about his former friend whom he had seen the day before. The dream deals with the following themes
- A former friend
- How do you behave with a former friend

If you weave together the different themes you find that they could capture this thought that the dreamer was thinking at the time -"I bumped into my former friend yesterday. He must have known that I have been avoiding him. How will we react when we next see each other? I am not sure - he may just realise that he has been snubbed at that we are no longer friends."
